Born in Detroit, Michigan Michael LeFlore moved to Phoenix Arizona in 1996. As a young child he watched his neighbors strive toward a positive environment despite social and economic challenges. He often wondered what impact art would have in creating a safe environment for people to flourish. With this thought in mind, Michael found himself participating in art activities. The experience of art created a sense of personal awareness and strength. Michael’s experience includes serving as a Youth Leader; Activities Manager; Case Manager; Community Enrichment Coordinator; Recreation Coordinator; and Adult Peer Support Specialist with agencies throughout the metro Phoenix area.
Michael believes art and culture represent the few areas in our society where people can come together to share an experience even if they see the world in radically different ways. He often expresses that the important thing is not that we agree about the experience that we share, but that we consider it worthwhile sharing an experience with the intention of positive growth for those around us. Michael says his commitment to art is attached to his sense of community. He believes the true ingredient of a community is endowed in people. People working together to support one another toward a positive purpose. This is what his life reflects. This is what he enjoys doing.
