Goolam Chavoos

Hi! My name is Goolam Saber, I am a South African multidisciplinary visual artist originally from Johannesburg. I am a trained print maker, though lately I have been focused on community-based art practices. My ongoing art practice is a balance between fine art where I enjoy making process driven experimental pieces, and community-engaged art that ranges from potato prints with migrant children to commissioned murals using aerosol. My mediums include: printmaking, mural design and painting, artist books, and public installations. Each piece I create is process driven, and each piece is relative to the space in which I find myself.

In my own practice, my work acknowledges the past that shaped my present using ancient techniques and combining them with my contemporary practice. In my community-based work, I create public workshops and work extensively within underserved, marginalized communities and collaborate with community members to create artworks that promote change whilst making art accessible.
